Larkin toads of Hull.

Hull is now over run with giant toads. They are to celebrate the life and works of local poet and librarian Philip Larkin. Managed to photograph a few around Hull marina. There are 40 around the city. Will be busy getting the rest.

Clipper Ships return to Hull

I had the pleasure of obtaining a press pass to shoot front and back stage of the round the world clipper sailing race which returned to Hull after 10 months and 35000 miles at sea. Congratulations to the Hull and Number for their 4th place and their win on the final leg.

Shearing Sheep

I had the opportunity to do a location shoot in the North Yorkshire Moors. Not an easy shoot. It was on a working farm, and tried not to get in the way but also need to get the shots. Lighting was difficult due to the fact I could not use a flash. The low light spec of the canon 5d mkii really did help. The rest of the shoots can be seen on Flickr.

Model Shoot New Canon 5d mark two

1st shoot with my new Canon 5d Mk II. Second shoot with model Naomi. It was 1st time shooting with her model boyfriend Dan. Very nice couple and fun to work with. Dan has some very good "female" poses!

I had not had much time to get used to the settings on the new camera. Basic menus are similar to the 450d I had been using. The shoot was around Hull Marina in strong sunlight. I only used available light and decided not to use flash. Some shoots did have harsh shadows, which I could have removed with a reflector. The only shoots I found difficult where of a fountain as a back drop. The camera was over exposing. When I shift the axis of the camera, so it was not in line with the sun, the exposures where better.

Location Shoot with Roveina

Had my fifth model shoot from the Pink Elephant Model agency. Roveina was an absolute pleasure to work with. Very professional and experienced. She needed very little direction during the shoot. Very enjoyable shoot.

The shoot was taken down High Street in Hull, and along the river Hull. There is a mix of old cobbled streets and new development around this area. Some of the shoots where taken around William Willberforce house and the Street Life museum.

Model shoot with Naomi

Had my 1st shoot with Naomi today at Pickering park in Hull. I had not meet Naomi before the shoot but had seen several photos of her. Some of which she had just had taken at a model competition she had just won. I never appreciated how tall she is. She told me that she is 5'10". She was also wearing heels for the shoot, I'm 5'11" and she towered over me.

The shoot went well. Naomi needed very little direction from. She was both professional and fun to work with. I'm looking forward to working with her and her partner in the near future.

Location Shoot with model Sam

Had my 1st shoot with Sam a local model that contacted me via Pink Elephant Dance and Model Agency. Shoot went well. 1st time this year I have seen sunshine through my lenses. The shoot was taken on Beverley Westwood, East Yorkshire. It had rained heavily for the last week, which meant the lower pasture are was very wet. This worked well for some reflection shoots.
