Last Live Hull at Street Life Museum?

Managed to get to another Live Hull gig at the street life museum in Hull. Unfortunately this is going to be the last one. But I'm sure this won't be the last we will see of Live Hull. There is to much talent in Hull for it to fall silent.

I watched the 10 o'clock show a couple of weeks ago and it made comment on how for every pound invested two are made. They also stated that during the second world war Winston Churchill was advised to cut founding to the arts he said "what are we fighting for" (quote from http://supportthearts.co.uk/).

This point is made in a museum. We can learn from history. During this recession more and more kids are struggling to find work, or a creative out let. The Warren project does this and more. Over the last two years I have seen young adults working their arses off to make these free concerts work so they can showcase their talents on stage. And take pride in themselves, their work and also their city.
These concerts cannot stop. There is to much talent out there going to waste.

Tripod Chasing

I have been following a fellow photographers blog for some time now. Neil Holmes is a local free lance photographer, who has been cataloguing and photographing Hull and the local area for the past 30 years. I meet Neil via twitter and have followed him and his blog since then.

Recently he posted some shoots of a green door on a derelict building, the building looked familiar so I asked where the photos where taken. Neil had taken the shoots around Princess Quay in an area ear marked for development.

I told Neil I would be tripod chasing him, the act of following another photographer to copy their work. Hopefully I have given my on touch to the photos.

They are all shot on a Canon 5d mark2 with a 24-70mm-L lens. Post process is with Lightroom and Photomatix 3.

Humber Bridge

The underside of the Humber bridge. When it 1st open it the worlds longest single span suspension bridge. Yorkshire and Lincolnshires own congestion charge. If the charge was scraped it would help local business work between the two sides of the river.

Another post from 2 years ago. Hull fair has just been and gone. A sure sign that winter is just round the corner. Roll on spring.

Cirque de Soleil makeup shoot

I have recently been working with the makeup artist Harley Young. She had asked me to take some photos at a dance studio of two models who she wanted to makeup in a Cirque de Soleil-esq style. She wanted two themes fire and water.

One of the dancers had not shown up so a last minute replacement was found. Thanks to Lizzy was stepping in at last minute. And thanks to Sam for some excellent work on the pole.

The lighting was a simple setup. Silver umbrella camera left with Jessops 360 strobe on 1/8 power. And 430exii set to ettl with sync cord on a white shoot thru umbrella.

Thanks to Hayley and the girls. And thanks to Jill at Dance Dynamic studio for the use of her studio.
